I was driving home from work and received an emergency text from Rob asking me if I heard from Chris Collins.  I looked in my phone history and noticed the missed call. Chris and I met at Shot Show 2012, you may know Chris from Top Shot Season 3.  I called Chris and he gave me a brief run down of what was going on.  A DVD project featuring 7 of the Top Firearms Instructors in the nation, team teaching a CCW course for 8 students.

I accepted the invitation and made arrangements to get a flight to WA.  48hrs later I was on a plane to Washington to meet up with Rob.  We drove two hours north of Seattle to the Hughes “Compound”.  Tucked away in one of the most beautiful places in the US was the home of the Hughes “Clan”. You may know Mike Hughes also from Season 3 of Top Shot.

The DVD project was the brainchild of Jeremy Wilson (owner of Wilson Tactical).  Other notable names involved with the project was Hilton Yam, Tim Lau of 10-8, and  Rob Pincus of I.C.E. Training Company.  All of us with considerable amount of training and teaching under our belts came together with one goal in mind… To give the viewers valuable firearms training, in addition to witnessing the variety of teaching methods.

There were plenty of discussion among the instructors and I am sure the students went home with more than enough to work on.  But what you probably won't see is the amount of fun we had.  On and off set we had a blast together, almost to much fun (think “Animal House”).

This happened to be my first time filming a DVD project so I was learning what goes behind making film work.  It was a great experience and I can't wait to view the finished product.  I believe this project  is important for the viewer because it gives you a snapshot of the many teaching methods available.

Stay tuned for more on this project….
